‘LED BY THE LIGHT’ is an album of traditional Christmas carols; an essay with global musical flavours. The arrangements encompass energetic rhythms, a splash of festive chants, percussion et al, bringing on new shades and hues in the embellishments.
The bansuri and smooth strings weave into the familiar strains of ‘Silent Night’, sargams decorate the tranquil flow of ‘Away in a Manger’, spirited percussion finds company in ‘God rest ye Merry Gentlemen’ and more. Tradition remains tradition, while it absorbs and integrates the subtleties of the lands it traverses… as the Magi followed the star, as the shepherds heard the angels, as the radiant beams shone from the manger, as that cold, wintry night brings Light to the world, year after year. This Hallowed Season heralds that same Peace, Love and Joy, as the world rises once again… world without end!
"Very nice, well done! An interesting take on traditional carols."
“I love the creative fusion of East and West… angelic voices telling of the event that took place 2000 years ago now come alive for Indian music lovers.”
"I've been hearing Christmas carols all my life and many tunes have become a permanent memory. 'Led by the Light' is a fantastic blend of the traditional with hues of Indian and global musical elements. It brings in a brand-new flavour to well-loved songs that are an essential part of the Christmas Season. Skilled lead vocals and lush harmony parts underline the traditional tunes with some fantastic arrangements. Delicate fusion warms up in 'Away in a manger' and 'O Holy night', simplistic percussion enhances 'O little town of Bethlehem', some feisty folk styles light up 'God rest ye merry gentlemen' and 'O come all ye faithful'... the medley 'The story of love' is excellent, a wonderful meld of voices and instruments building up to a crescendo!"
"It was a sheer delight to the ears and to the heart to listen to Carols with and within a Context. Some might call it a blend, others a fusion, but it certainly was not an intrusion. It was mellifluous.I would say that it was contextualised. It brings out the richness of tradition passed through the heart of other classical cultures. That is context one would say! The album brought with it a creativity that tugged at my heart. Thanks Dominic and Jerusha and the wonderful back up team that gave us Christ-born-today-here-and-now."
"Led By the Light is a beautiful new holiday album released by Jerusha Lawrence D’Cruz and Dominic D’Cruz that is definitely worth adding to your collection! These lovely arrangements of many all-time -favorite carols are a breath of fresh air during this season of glitzy holiday tunes. The tracks are gently infused with instrumentation and vocalizations from India giving them a new flair while maintaining their traditional essence. Especially lovely are the magical opening passages of Away in the Manger and the warm strings and vocals on the O Come, O Come Emmanuel which will transport you back to ancient Bethlehem. "
